DFMC BOARD CANDIDATE
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
NAME OF CANDIDATE: Angela Laville
REPRESENTING DIOCESE OF: Kansas City-St. Joseph
POSITION TITLE: Diocesan Financial Officer
NUMBER OF YEARS IN CURRENT POSITION: 4.5
NUMBER OF DFMC CONFERENCES ATTENDED: 4 (2025 will be my 5th)
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
I serve as the Diocesan/Chief Financial Officer and, in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, that includes the management of accounting, finance, risk (insurance) and property management. Property management includes managing for all parishes and schools the new construction, major renovation and maintenance. I also serve as the Chairperson of the Deposit & Loan Board of Trustees and as a member of the Diocesan Finance Committee, the Diocesan Investment Committee, the Lay and Priest Pension Boards, the Benefit Committee, the boards of three Diocesan high schools, the St. Joseph Catholic Academy Board and the Bright Futures Fund Board of Directors.
From a standard financial role perspective, some of the most important accomplishments include the implementation of financial reviews for new pastor assignments and providing parish accounting services to our smaller locations. In addition, we implemented an audit process to ensure compliance with 1099 reporting for all locations.
From a more unusual perspective, there are two accomplishments that I am very proud of: Morning Glory Ministries is a ministry of our Cathedral serving the homeless that needed to move due to changes in facilities on location at the Cathedral. I managed the renovation of a full commercial kitchen and dining area in the basement of the Catholic Center (Chancery) and the daily breakfasts for the homeless began within 2 months. In addition, MOScholars is a program within the State of Missouri in which tax credits are raised and the money can be utilized to fund students attending private schools. Our Diocese began as one of five Educational Assistance Organizations and has grown to a point in which my team not only supports our Diocese but also the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau. Between the two dioceses, more than 1,900 scholarships will be awarded for this school year.
BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR BACKGROUND PRIOR TO WORKING FOR THE DIOCESE:
I began work as a public accountant with a focus on Audit at the firm now known as Ernst & Young. From there, I moved to Sprint where I worked for thirteen years starting in accounting, moving into finance and then into operations, managing 7x24 business call centers. I then had an opportunity to move to GE Insurance (now known as Swiss Re) and served as the Chief Financial Officer of the Casualty Insurance line which was an $8 billion worldwide business. An engineering firm, TranSystems, then contacted me to become the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer of a company that acquired 26 businesses in my 7 years serving that industry.
At this point in my career, I felt strongly that God was calling me to do more in the way of service with my skill set. I began to answer that call by serving as Chief Financial Officer of Enterprise Center of Johnson County. This is a not-for-profit supporting new business growth. This led to the calling to serve the Catholic Church and a call from a recruiter to serve in the Diocese that I grew up in.
ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION:
I grew up in Kansas City and have attended all Catholic Schools. I am a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem and Legatus International. I serve as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, a catechist for Faith Formation and a member of the Vocation Committee for my Parish.
