BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS: I oversee all financial operations and financial reporting of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, our parishes, and schools, as well as oversee Information Technology, Development, and Risk Management. Accomplishments include implementation of outsourced payroll across the Archdiocese parishes and schools, implementation of standardized accounting system for all parishes and schools, influencing our hiring process in Finance to smart hires, and improving payment processes to ACH as primary and paperless. I enjoy building relationships with committee members, vendors, donors, and others in support of the mission of the Catholic Church to help us reach big goals.
BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR BACKGROUND PRIOR TO WORKING FOR THE (ARCH)DIOCESE: .
My professional career began as an accountant in the Oil and Gas Industry in Houston, Texas, then progressed with a large energy company, and then a tier one law firm prior to joining the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston in 2013 as its Controller. I would be remiss to add that I originally began working at age 14 for my father at the neighborhood grocery store that he managed. As you may guess, he expected of me what he could not demand of others (punctuality, excellence, passion, dedication) and that work ethic is what I still follow today.
ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION: I am born and raised in Houston, Texas, where I have lived my whole life. I am widowed after 30 years of marriage, and have 3 grown children: 2 daughters and 1 son. I enjoy watching baseball and attending plays and musicals. I stay active by walking almost every day. I have one dog, a 15 year old mutt who is the offspring of the family’s old English Springer Spaniel, but frequently have 3 dogs in the house when “dogsitting” for my daughter’s Golden Retriever and my son’s Black Labrador Retriever. I spent several years as a catechist in my parish’s elementary CCE program. I am preparing for the 2027 World Youth Day in Seoul South Korea to serve as a team lead. I have volunteered as treasurer and other positions for my community Civic Club over the better part of the last 30 years.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC.: I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelors of Business Administration Degree with a concentration in Accounting. I received my CPA license in Texas shortly after that. I received the Certificate of Diocesan Financial Management (#42) in 2017.
